COVID-19 update

Golden Empire Council Covid-19 May 15th Update

As our community and local economy continues to address the public health crisis, we remain committed to supporting the delivery of Scouting to our local families.  Over the past weeks we have seen our Scouts and Scouters come together in ways never before imagined, continuing to offer outstanding programs for our youth.  The Golden Empire Council is continuing to monitor the situation.  As the health and safety of our Scouts is the most important thing to us, we will be following the government and local health department suggestions concerning re-opening our Council office and beginning to return to a more normal program. For now, per State restrictions we know that our office will remain closed to the public through May 22nd at which time we will update as needed.  BUT….we are still here!  Your District Executives are ready to go!  They are here to support your needs, answer your questions and to help you keep Scouting strong.  Please reach out if there is anything they can do for you.

In Person Scouting Events

As of today, the State of California still prohibits the gathering of non-family members in an outdoor environment even in situations where safe social distancing is being observed.  This prohibits us from holding in-person scouting events.  However, that does not mean we have to stop Scouting, far from it!  Please visit our website and Council Facebook page for ideas on how to keep Scouting Virtually and At-Home.

Council Office Update

The Golden Empire Council office will be available in a modified format, while adhering to local and state guidelines and health and safety procedures. If needed arrangements can be made for contactless drop off or pick up of paperwork at the Council Office by appointment only Monday through Friday 8:30 to Noon. Please call our main number to schedule a time (916) 929-1417.

Nor Cal Scout Shop Update

Our Nor Cal Scout Shop in Chico, CA is now taking phone orders Wednesday through Friday Noon to 6PM and Saturday 10AM-2PM.  You can place your order by calling 530-809-0400.  Please expect to pay a $10 Shipping and Handling fee to every order regardless of shipping location.

Thank You

Thank you to our Leaders, Scouts and their families for continuing to provide an outstanding program for our youth in these unusual times.  Together we can ensure Scouting continues to Thrive!

BSA Policies to Prevent the Spread of Illness

The Boy Scouts of America continues to have policies and procedures in place that help protect participants from contracting an illness at large Scouting events. These include the Annual Health and Medical Record and the Pre-Event Medical Screening Checklist.

Preventive Measures

Even with these important policies in place, it is critical that we all take these everyday preventive actions to help prevent the spread of respiratory diseases:

  • Stay home when you feel sick.
  • Avoid close contact with people who are sick.
  • Avoid touching your eyes, nose, and mouth, and wash your hands before and after doing so.
  • Cover your cough or sneeze with a tissue, then throw the tissue in the trash. If you don’t have a tissue, cough or sneeze into your upper sleeve/elbow, not your hands.
  • Clean and disinfect frequently touched objects and surfaces using a regular household cleaning spray or wipe.
  • Do not share personal items such as cups, water bottles, eating utensils, etc.
  • Avoid shaking hands.
  • Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after going to the bathroom; before eating; and after blowing your nose, coughing, or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use an alcohol-based hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol. Always wash hands with soap and water if hands are visibly dirty.
